DAY (too short to count)

Lancaster - Carnforth - Kendal

20 miles, (473 total) 18th August

Overcast and drizzly. Packed tent and set off then the heavens opened. Took refuge with gallons of tea and sausage sarnie in caff and looked forlornly out of the window.

Heavy traffic threw up dense spray and low clouds stuck on the surrounding hills. KJ starts having a leg problem - possibly a pulled muscle - this rain won't help. Into Kendal and the tourist office advised not to attempt Shap due to weather and poor visibility. Lunched in the Brewery Arts Centre to sounds of a folk/rock band.

Booked in a B&B, dried out, and rain eased. Discovered a new use for legs by 'walking' into Kendal where Batman & Robin were saving the main street from crime - don't ask!

Tried an Indian restaurant where the only difference in two dishes was the amount of yellow or pink food colouring - and the glace cherry on top of one! I didn't think I'd ordered a cocktail.

NOT a good day. Must remember to erase memory.

We were drenched. Drip drip drip squelch.
