DAY 1
(Lands End) - Leedstown - Truro - St Austell - Golant
62 miles, (62 total) 10th August
The sun came up, tea brewed and we were off - a glance at the map giving the right direction. I suppose we'd better think about getting fit for the ride as some brown bits on the map loomed, so an ample fry up was enjoyed in Camborne, with gallons of tea.
We rode passed tin mines, pasty shops and soon reached Truro for lunch.
Here we started 15 miles of leap-frogging a group of ten unladen bikies and their support van on a 70mile sponsored ride, one seemingly struggling. Our detour through Probus showed us some ridiculous cycle lanes - the council obviously had some cheap white paint to use up. Well, it made a useful parking strip for local residents.
In St Austell a local asked where we were going and could he help. "Scotland" we replied. He suffered a sense of humour bypass with "no need to take the p*ss" and strode off. Humph! We like Cornwall too mate!
Golant Youth Hostel looked convenient on the map and KJ was dreading more slugs so we took the last beds. We plumped for the supper - superb.
